Donald Trump has followed up his recent interview with billionaire businessman Elon Musk by floating the possibility that he may be part of his cabinet upon return to the White House.

In an interview with Reuters on Monday, Trump was asked whether he would consider Musk for an advisory or even cabinet position, to which he replied enthusiastically.

“He’s a very smart guy,” Trump told the news agency. “I certainly would, if he would do it, I certainly would. He’s a brilliant guy.”

Elon has since responded to the comments by stating that he is “ready to serve,” posting an image of himself as the head of the Department for Government Efficiency.

Trump also gave his view about electric vehicles, which is incredibly important to Musk given his role as CEO of Tesla, the world’s most valuable car company.

He specifically weighed in on the current policy of providing tax credits offered to individuals who purchase electric vehicles, an idea that Trump said he was opposed to.

“Tax credits and tax incentives are not generally a very good thing,” Trump said. “I’m not making any final decisions on it. I’m a big fan of electric cars, but I’m a fan of gasoline-propelled cars, and also hybrids and whatever else happens to come along.”

Should Trump win in November, he would then be able to roll back Treasury Department regulations that have allowed automakers to more easily benefit from the $7,500 credit. During his last term in office, Trump unsuccessfully tried to abolish the credit, while the Biden regime has since expanded it.

Trump's comments about Musk and electric vehicles come after the two men held a nearly three hour long discussion that touched on themes including the recent assassination attempt against him, to electric vehicles and energy policy and how to avoid nuclear war.

Posting on the X platform, Musk responded to Trump's comments

Last month, Musk announced that he was formally endorsing Donald Trump's candidacy and has reportedly pledged hundreds of millions of dollars from his vast fortune towards his presidential campaign via his own political action committee.
