Paul Serran: I think that we have now some sort of division in which you have both China and Russia, meaning to expand the group and take it from more of an economic group into an alternative to the G Seven to sort of have a geopolitical standing up to the west, so to speak.

Putin made his speech by video link because the International Criminal Court has an arrest order for him. So he had to participate from Russia, and he was making a call for the BRICS to become an alternative to G-7.

Lula is always saying one thing and doing another in the sense that the Brazilians don’t want to expand BRICS. That’s the reality. Our state apparatus is against it. But Lula personally has started to shift his position, and now he’s actually supporting this. And at the same time, he says that he doesn’t want the BRICS group to be against the US or against the G Seven or against the G 20.
