Horrific Body Camera Footage Shows Mom and Two-Month-Old Infant Both Fatally Shot by Police Officer After She Charged Him with Large Kitchen Knife

Horrific body camera footage has been released showing the moments before a Missouri mother and her two-month-old infant were fatally shot by a police officer as she lunged at them with a large kitchen knife.

The footage shows Maria Pike, 34, feeding her daughter, Destinii Hope, two months, in a closet when officers from the Independence Police Department arrived over a reported family assault.

The officers repeatedly asked Pike to put down the baby, but she ignored the requests.

“The repeated attempts failed, and she exited the closet, walked past the officers, and sat on the bed next to the nightstand,” the department said in a statement, according to a report from the New York Post.

Her husband, the infant’s father, can be seen sitting on the bed.

Eleven minutes into the video, Pike grabs the knife from the nightstand and rushes towards the officer while still clutching the baby.

“She retrieved the concealed large kitchen-style knife and charged at officers, while still holding the child,” the police department’s statement explained.

“As a result, one officer fired at the female and both she and the infant sustained fatal injuries.”

The three officers who responded to the call have been placed on administrative leave. They have not been publicly identified.

“The Independence Police Department has been and will continue to be as transparent as legally permitted,” the PD’s statement said. “IPD fully understands the demand surrounding the events of that day and we will continue to fully cooperate with the outside investigation being conducted by the Police Involved Investigation Team.”

The Independence Police Department has said that more information will be made available once the investigation concludes.
